Bionic Gear Bag Sew Along

Bionic Gear Bag’s Dumpling Dish Sew Along

JULY 2016 EDIT:  Unfortunately, due to the unprofessional behaviour of Sally Thompson aka Ripstitcher, I have disassociated myself with her and her business.  Therefore, I have removed all YouTube videos associated with Ripstitcher’s patterns.  I will not respond to any requests asking me for the videos.  If you have any pattern questions, please direct them to Sally Thompson, the pattern creator.

Here is the last video in the Bionic Gear Bag Sew Along series.  In this video, I show you how I do the adorable Dumpling Dish.  This handy little dish is a fun addition to your Bionic Gear Bag and is reasonably quick to sew.

Thank you all for your kind comments during this series – I’ve truly had so much fun making these videos.  They have been not only a learning tool for you, but for me as well!!  I hope to do some more in the future, so if there’s something you’d like to see a tutorial on, please leave a comment.

  1. Thanks for another great video, Michelle. I was wondering…. what would be the downside to leaving the zipper tab unattached to the bowl? That would p;rovide something to hold onto when opening the zipper.

    1. Great question!! I guess the only ‘downside’ would be that the zipper would stick straight out from the pouch when both opened and closed. If you choose to do this, just make sure you stitch over the zipper teeth so the zipper pull doesn’t slide off the end.

  2. Thank you for doing these video tutorials. I have looked for instructions on the placement of the magnetic snaps for both the Bionic Dumpling Dish and the Notions Fabric Dish but can’t find anything. Since there are instructions in the Bionic Gear Bag video and pattern about putting in the first half of the magnetic snap I’m confused as to why there is nothing about installing the mate to that snap in the Dumpling dish and/or Notions dish. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance, Sue

    1. I cannot find any instructions in the pattern either. So before I sew the two halves together, I line up the Dumpling Dish with the snaps on the BGB and mark the placement on the dumpling dish.

  3. Thank you for your video tutorIals on the BGB bag. I considered buying the Pattern but a few people indicated it was hard to follow and there was very little support from the creator. Your videos have excellent, straight forward instructions so I think I’ll go ahead and purchase the pattern and then sew along with your tutorials. Thanks again

  4. HELLO! I am working on the BGB – but cursing under my breath about the instructions….so many words and such little 1-2-3 organized content – and photos with fabric that keeps changing colors! AArrhrhrhdkjghrhhhhh!!!! ;D I’ve sewn for 50+ years, and thought I knew all the tricks – but it has taken a lot of THOUGHT on my part to put this together so far – I’m at the zippers and linings stage. I found your video series that looks wonderful, but when I try to watch them, they say ‘private’. Is there a link that allows me to unlock and view them? Knowing you’re an Aussie – I must tell you that I really love the contemporary/tribal/modern design and color sense that quilters from Oz all seem to have! I love seeing all of your work!

  5. Hello, I really love your videos, they are the best. I am in the middle of my project to do the Bionic gear bag and the Dumpling dish. You were my teacher at home. I cannot do it without your videos. Is there any chance that you please let me watch them (part 1 to 4 and the dumpling dish) a couple of times more so I can finish my project? I would really appreciate it. Please let me know how to contact you.

  6. Linda and Maria. Please refer to my edit at the beginning of this post. I’m sorry you are having difficulties with the pattern, however please re-direct any questions regarding the pattern to Sally Thompson. Thanks.
